Work begins on Maple Street

Repaving work has commenced on 7,000 feet of Maple Street between 15th Street and Canfield Lake Road. Funding for the project comes from one years interest on the money in the state’s Rainy Day Fund and totals 69 million dollars. Maple Street is slated to have the existing base totally pulverized and then widened to two 12 foot lanes and paved with a three foot paved shoulder on both sides.

Clio Club opens season

The Clio Club opened its 1957-58 program on Wednesday evening, October 2, with a dinner at the Cottage Restaurant attended by about 50 ladies. Tables were attractively decorated with pine branches and cones, bittersweet and snowberries. Following a delicious turkey dinner, Mrs. Merrill Munn, the new president, opened the business session with the club collect.

80 YEARS AGO

Program for color tour

October 17 is the date set for Manistee’s annual Color Tour and Forest Program. At this time the magnificent autumn coloring of the Manistee National Forest and wooded sand dunes along Lake Michigan shore should be at its best.

Marksmen pick new president

Mandy Sheras, 90 Maple St., was elected by acclamation to succeed John Campbell as president of the Manistee Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc., during the annual business meeting of the club held at 419 River St., last evening.
