Octoberfest bazaar

About 700 persons visited the Octoberfest bazaar sponsored by the Manistee Business and Professional Women’s group last Sunday. The bazaar is the club’s one making project of the year.

American Box Board launches program

33 woodland owners became the first members of the American Box Board Tree Farm Family at a ceremony yesterday. Metal name plate signs and membership cards were presented by Gordon B. Bonfield, vice-president of American Box Board Co. and general manager of its Filer City division. The ceremony was held in conjunction with a forestry demonstration on the Harthun Brothers farm, near Bear Lake. The forestry program offered private woods owners by American Box Board is the first of its kind in Michigan.

Federal agent to speak here

An interesting program is in store for Kiwanians at their regular meeting Wednesday evening, according to Milbert Carlson, program chairman, when Jay C. Newman, special agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation will address the members. The services of Mr. Newman were obtained by special permission of J. Edgar Hoover, chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Supervisors increase pay

Manistee’s county Board of Supervisors opening the October session yesterday afternoon at the courthouse, lost little time in taking advantage of a new state law allowing board members to increase their pay to $5 per day.
