Free childbirth presentations to be offered in Ludington

LUDINGTON — Kim Wildner, author and HypnoBirthing Childbirth educator will be holding space in Ludington for expectant and new parents to connect with each other and explore an assortment of mutually interesting topics throughout 2018.

“Nearly every week throughout the year I will be offering free presentations regarding pregnancy, childbirth and the immediate postpartum period.” Wildner said. “These are mostly presentations I’ve given throughout the U.S. and abroad, at conferences, or as a guest speaker to psychology and nursing students at college and universities. Some topics stem from articles I’ve had published in professional trade journals.”

Attendees can expect evidence-based information, with citations provided so that parents can further educate themselves on items of particular interest. Discussion, movies, guest speakers or live demonstrations will also be included for many of the events.

“Since I’ve been away from West Michigan I’ve seen a number of different ways to help parents connect and find helpful resources,” Wildner said. “Where I’ve lived, birthing boutiques, pregnancy yoga studios, pregnancy and birthing photography studios all had offerings where mothers could ‘meet the doula,’ among other things.

“Improving Birth-Iowa also had an active presence which included a full-color booklet that included articles and listings for services relevant to the childbearing year. In the city, there are baby-wearing groups, and breastfeeding support groups, and other places were parents gather to share information. Small towns sometimes struggle to meet these needs. I’m hoping to provide that opportunity.”

The events are free, although registration is required due to space limitation. The full schedule of events can be found at www.kimwildner.me in a downloadable document, under both the “classes” tab and the “presentations” tab.
