Crystal Mountain to host Peaktoberfest

THOMPSONVILLE — Mountain bikers looking for a challenge, or visitors simply looking for a good beer will find both at Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa during Peaktober Fest.

Peaktober Fest will be held from Friday through Sunday, with a variety of events taking place throughout the day.

On Friday, visitors will be able to take part in a buffet and enjoy chairlift rides.

The main event begins on Saturday, with the annual Founders Peak 2 Peak Mountain Bike Classic, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the base of the Crystal Clipper Chairlift.

The race is held in and around the beautiful, gently rolling terrain surrounding Crystal Mountain. The race starts and finishes near the base of the front-side slopes. Riders journey through hardwood and pine forests along rambling two-tracks and flowing single-track on a course that is fast and challenging, but not so difficult that racers new to the sport won’t have a great time.

“Peaktober Fest is one of the biggest fall events,” said Brian Lawson, said Brian Lawson, director of public relations for Crystal Mountain. “The Peak2Peak race uses our mountain bike trail system. Riders of various abilities start in waves, so regardless of what a person’s riding ability is, there is a race they can take part in.”

Aside from multiple categories for adult racers, several different races for younger bike enthusiasts will be held, starting around 1 p.m.

Also during Peaktober Fest, a tent is erected in the midst of the race activities, which features beer, traditional Octoberfest food and activities for children, such as a petting zoo, a pumpkin carving station, and more.

The event also features live music, including The Dave Wells Strolling German Oompa Band.
