Taler Bohannon completes U.S. Navy basic training

MANISTEE — Taler Bohannon, daughter of Jonathan and Lani Millsap, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, North Chicago. She is a 2017 graduate of Manistee High School.

During the eight-week program, Bohannon completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, also shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. Bohannon was placed in an performance division, which was a division that endured added responsibilities to the normal daily routines and required extra training.

The capstone event of bootcamp is “BattleStation 21.” This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battlestation 21” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and commitments. It’s distinctly “Navy” flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.

After bootcamp, Bohannon traveled to “A” school in San Antonio, Texas where she will be for another two months to train for her Master at Arms job and then will be given a duty assignment.
