Crystal Mountain opens skiing today

THOMPSONVILLE — Skiers and riders will take to the downhill trails at Crystal Mountain today, opening from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., the earliest opening day since 2014.

Cold temperatures allowed Crystal Mountain to make snow Sunday night into Monday morning and then again on Tuesday night. The resort plans to be open for skiing and riding on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., closing on Monday to take advantage of snowmaking opportunities.

This weekend the Cheers (intermediate) trail will be accessible using the Buck quad chairlift. Crystal will continue to make snow as long as temperatures remain 28 degrees or lower. Additional terrain and lifts will open as conditions allow with the latest updates available at crystalmountain.com/snowreport.

Skiing and boarding will be an added bonus to an already busy Thanksgiving Reconnect Weekend at the mountain.

On Friday, the Holiday Trail Celebration gets started resort-wide at 5 p.m., just after skiing and riding closes for the day. The event includes activities like surrey rides, bonfires and ornament making as well as food and drink at venues throughout the village. Toys for Tots will also be collecting donations. Finally, Crystal will be set aglow from 5-6 p.m. on Saturday, during the annual First Light Celebration.
