OUR VIEW: Citizen of the Year deadline is Dec. 4

In 2016, the News Advocate honored Bobbi Rogers Krause for her passionate dedication to Manistee’s Lighthouse Park.

We also shared stories of local residents Dr. George “Doc” Wagoner, Al Frye and Carlina Breitner.

There are numerous people in our area who do great things, and we want to share their stories.

The deadline is fast approaching to submit nominations for the next Citizen of the Year.

We want to bring you stories of regular people doing good things for the community — the resident who knits hats and mittens for children in the winter time; someone who purchased tires for a family in need.

This is a way to extend a public thank-you. You’re the ones who know their names and what they do; we’re asking you consider giving them a very public thank you.

This year, the News Advocate again will profile several special people. We need your help to continue what has become a special community tradition.

Citizen of the Year nomination forms can be found in the paper. You also can find an electronic version at manisteenews.com.

We encourage you to use them. The deadline to submit nominations is Dec. 4.

The person you nominate needs to have done something special THIS YEAR. That last part is really important. We want to honor people for the good deeds they did in 2017. Please fully explain the reasons you think a person should be recognized.

A person cannot be nominated for being good at his or her job. The best teacher in the world cannot be nominated for being an excellent teacher.

Sometimes, one person really can make a difference. We want to tell their story, and offer some appreciation and recognition.
