The stuff of Christmas

Dorothy’s Crafts and Ken’s Shadows, owned and operated by Dorothy and Ken Conklin on Caberfae Hwy., brings in the Christmas season with holiday gifts for people of all ages. The Conklins have a number of pre-made crafts and shadows at their shop which are hard to miss when going past their home on M-55.

Hospital service sharing discussed

The possibility of sharing services between West Shore Hospital in Manistee and Memorial Hospital in Onekama was discussed last night in a joint meeting of the boards of the two hospitals. Memorial Hospital adminstrator Q. Woody Pica said this morning that no action was officially taken at the meeting, but that discussion and comments centered around sharing of some laboratory facilities and the possibility of setting up a detoxification center at Memorial Hospital to comply with new state substance abuse laws.

Open on Saturdays

The Manistee Post Post Office will be open Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during December to help deal with the Christmas mailing rush. The Post office has also announced that an embargo on packages to foreign countries has been lifted.

80 YEARS AGO

Trees to brighten city

Forty two Christmas trees will be set out on River Street during the next few days with plans calling for the trees to be fully set up and lighted for Saturday night. Work will start tomorrow at which time the trees will be set in before the establishments of merchants who ordered them.

First taxes paid

At 10:45 today 51 property owners in the city had paid their 1937 taxes, George L. Kruse, city treasurer, announced this noon. He stated that the interest being displayed in the payment compares favorably with that of last year.
