Local names sought for Gifts for Soldiers program

MANISTEE — If you have a family member serving in the military overseas, the Manistee County Gifts for Soldiers would like to send them gifts.

Names and addresses of those personnel are being gathered in order to send them gifts. The program has been a longtime supporter of the national Any Soldiers program, in which gifts are sent to various soldiers serving overseas.

“We will continue to be part of the Any Soldiers gift drive,” said David Barber, “but we’d also like to make sure our local military personnel are taken care of, too.”

The local Gifts for Soldiers program was started several years ago by Pauline Jaquish and Gloria Edwards, of Bear Lake, who retired from the project last year. Barber is helping to see the program continues.

“Pauline and Gloria were incredible in all they accomplished,” said Barber. “Keeping this program going is important.”

If you have a family member you’d like a gift box sent to, send his or her name to the United Way of Manistee County, 449 River St., Manistee, MI 49660, or email Barber at dlbarber1006@gmail.com.

Donations in support of the program can also be sent to the United Way office in Manistee (100 percent of the donation will be used by the Gifts for Soldiers). Mark on your check or letter, “Gifts for Soldiers.”
