homework, Grace Servinski, a seventh grader at Onekama Schools, is using her passion for 4H to give back to the community through charity.

Grace recently donated $3,480 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., using the money she raised from selling her market turkeys during Manistee County 4H, this summer.

Making the long trek to Tennesee, Grace also delivered the donation personally to the hospital.

“This is the third year in a row that Grace has decided to do this with her money,” said her mother, Elaine Bossingham. “Every year she sells her turkeys. She also raises cattle and pigs, as well.”

Grace has been involved with 4H for six years. This year, she had 12 buyers from the community for her turkeys, which donated $5 a pound, per buyer, for a total of $70 a pound.

This was not the first time Grace chose to donate her money raised from the Manistee County Fair 4H livestock auction, as she donated to the Munson Cancer Patient Fund and the Greater Michigan Chapter for the Alzheimer’s Association in the past.

Grace plans to continue her donations in the future.

“Next year her donation is slated for the Veteran’s Mobile Unit,” said Bossingham. “This was all her idea. Both of her grandmothers passed away from cancer, so that’s why she (first) chose the cancer patient fund.”
