Channel 2 goes black

Although no formal announcement has been made, and Cliff Selkoe, owner of Sunset Productions, who operates Manistee Public Education Government Access Channel 2 is unavailable for comment, it appears that the channel is off the air.

Hardy Salt party

‘Tis the season to be jolly…and also to thank some special people for a job well done. At least, that’s the occasion which marked the Hardy Salt Company union meeting and annual Christmas Party at the St. Joseph Civic Club. A crowd of approximately 200 attended the affair and later applauded retirees who were presented with handsome silver platters for dedicated service. Some of the older retirees that received a platter were: Roy Krusniak (43 years), Leonard Schimnoski (38 years), Vern Johnson (38 years), John Mrozik (40 years), Joe Kavulic (41 years), Dan O’Handley (40 years), and Harry Strzyzewski (38 years).

“More Bad News” at the Vogue

Now playing at the Vogue Theatre is the sequel to the hit movie, “The Bad News Bears”. Titled, “The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training”, the film stars William Devane and Clifton James. Showtimes are 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. through this week.

60 YEARS AGO

April set for band concert

At a meeting of the county band directors it was decided to have the annual massed band concert at the Armory on April 16, 17, and 18. In regards to tickets to the concert, each school will sell them, keeping the proceeds of these advance sales in their respective schools. The admission is 25 cents for students and 50 cents for adults.

80 YEARS AGO

Stores to be closed

Shoppers are reminded that all River St. stores and places of business in general throughout the city will be closed all day Saturday in order that employees may celebrate the New Year holiday. Stores will close at the regular time Friday evening. Christmas trees on River Street will come down Monday with the close of the holiday period.

To Rose Bowl

Roy Ross, 74 Division Street, left Monday for Los Angeles, California to attend the Rose Bowl football game and to visit friends and relatives.
