1998 a big year for sewer and street work

What’s in store for the city in the coming year? More of those huge street and sewer construction projects, according to City Manager R. Ben Bifoss. When asked to take a look ahead to 1998, Bifoss said that will be the time when “the city as an organization will attempt to manage a massive construction project.” Over the next year or so, he said, the city will spend up to $6 million on sewer reconstruction.

60 YEARS AGO

Tompkes are new matrons

Mr. and Mrs. Golden Tompke moved on Tuesday from their farm home to take charge of the County Convalescent Home. Mrs. Tompke has had experience assisting there. Their son, Bud Tompke and family will move into the home vacated by his parents.
