City approves Medical Marijuana Facilities Ordinance

MANISTEE — After several months drafting and discussing Medical Marijuana Facilities within the city, Manistee City Council unanimously approved an ordinance on Tuesday night.

The ordinance was first presented to council at a work session on Nov. 30. Council held a general consensus that if a permit is denied, an appeal process could be made to first the city manager, and then to city council.

On Dec. 19, the final draft of the ordinance was presented to council, where it was approved for a second reading. On Tuesday, the ordinance was then approved along with the consent agenda.

The ordinance follows the state’s Michigan Medical Marijuana Facilities Licencing Act, which allows state licensed medical marijuana grow facilities and processors to operate within parameters of the city; however, it does not authorize provisioning centers.
