City delays cable rate action

Manistee City councilmen last night voted to delay action on a request to allow an increase in rate for subscribers to Manistee Cable Television. George Mott, president of Manistee Cablevision, Inc. asked the council for authorization to increase the subscription rates by 75 cents a month, which would bring the monthly rate to $7. Mott also requested permission to raise the rates annually by a percentage equal to increases in the consumer price index. The council, which had rejected a December proposal for $1.50 monthly increase, voted to consider the matter for two weeks and make a decision at the next regularly scheduled council meeting.

Hathaway to retire

Captain Earl Hathaway, charge of the 7th Division with headquarters here, is one of four veteran officers who will retire from Michigan State Police this week. Captain Hathaway joined the force in 1921, and was in charge of the Manistee Post during the 20s.

Local youth is alternate to West Point

Edmund Piotrowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Piotrowski of 543 Fairview Ave., today was named first alternate for the appointment to West Point from the Ninth District by Congressman Albert J. Engel.

Rifle Club to stage match

Victor Simons, executive director of the Manistee Rifle and Pistol Club, announced today a handicap rifle match to be held on Jan. 7 at the rifle range in the old Electric Theater (located on Poplar Street), arranged under the direction of officers of the club and open to all members who have qualified at any time since the organization of the club.
