Interlochen man charged with multiple domestic violence counts

BENZIE COUNTY — A Benzie County man was arraigned on Friday after police report he assaulted his live-in girlfriend.

Benjamin Graham, 31, of Interlochen, was charged in Benzie County’s 85th District Court with felonious assault, assault with intent to maim, strangulation, aggravated domestic violence, possession of firearm while intoxicated and reckless discharge of a firearm.

A Michigan State Police trooper from the Cadillac Post, Honor Detachment was dispatched on Thursday to a report of an assault and gun shots at a residence in Inland Township in Benzie County.

When the trooper arrived, it was determined Graham had assaulted his live-in girlfriend with an intent to cause her serious injuries, according to a press release from the MSP.

Graham had also pointed a handgun at his girlfriend as well as two other adult males that were in the house who had attempted to intervene, according to police. It was reported that the suspect did discharge the gun in the air while making threats of violence; however, no one was hit by the gunfire, the press release continued. The suspect also had been consuming alcohol prior to the assaults.

Graham is lodged at the Benzie County Jail.

The Benzie County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
