Ski team back on slopes

Although the weather outside is frightful to many, the Manistee Ski Team is thrilled with Thursday’s snowfall and it will open its season tonight against Cadillac at the Chippewa’s home course at Crystal Mountain. The starters for the boys team are: Sean Totch, Nick Jados, TIm Robison, Adam Dontz, Fritz Boehm, Greg Robison, Aaron Supianoski and Jake Zimmerman. Starters for the girls are: Jesse Wrzesinski, Shelley Snyder, Heidi Riddle, Stephanie Barbera, Tessa Woodbury, Jeri Wrzesinski, Stephanie Paine, Caitlin Pelton and Kasia Pogodsinskia.

Blowing snow snarls traffic, closes school

Blowing snow and near-zero visibility forced closing of all schools in Manistee County plagued area industries with high absenteeism among workers and caused minor food shortages in some grocery stores. A telephone survey of large employers in the Manistee area indicates a higher than usual number of people have decided not to brave the elements to come to work.

Radios, recorders taken

About $385 worth of radios and cassette recorders were stolen from Wahr Hardware sometime between noon Thursday and noon Friday, Manistee City Police said. Police said the three radios and two recorder may have been taken by customers when the store was open.

Manistee County Soil meeting

The 12th annual meeting of the Manistee County Soil Conservation District will be January 11 at the Kaleva gym. Sessions open at 9:30 a.m. with the annual report of the directors. A talk by Rowland Blair on the tree farm family program and a special quiz-down by the ladies will complete the morning’s program. At noon, a free lunch will be served by Rengo Brothers of Kaleva and the Bear Lake Equipment Co. of Bear Lake.
