Blaine Church planning two mission trips

BLAINE TWP. — A total of 12 people from the church family at Blaine Christian Church will soon leave for two separate mission trips.

Beginning Jan. 27, a team of 10 people will spend eight days volunteering in the Lower Keys of Key West, Fla., to help Habitat for Humanity carry out their relief mission of repairing homes damaged by Hurricane Irma.

This team will hang drywall, replace fences, install cabinets and continue other critical repairs on homes affected by the hurricane.

Habitat for Humanity believes everyone should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. As a Christian organization, founded in 1976, they build and repair houses using volunteer labor and donations.

The second mission trip is a husband and wife team who will be part of a group of 20 people going to Guatemala City, Guatemala, for the first 16 days of February.

This couple will help continue construction and cement work being done on a local church. The goal is to build a second story on the existing structure so there can be classrooms as well as a community center so local people can be taught about health and hygiene, how to improve their diet, etc.

While in Guatemala City, this group will also help plan a 50th wedding anniversary party for the church’s minister and wife.

The Missions Ministry at Blaine Christian Church is supporting these two trips in the form of prayer, and some financial support was donated by the entire church family at a fund raising brunch held in December. Participants are responsible for paying the remainder of the cost of their trip.

These 12 people will represent Blaine Christian Church as they minister to meet physical needs, but they will also minister to people’s spiritual needs by showing them the love of Christ.

Blaine Christian Church is located at 7018 Putney Road (corner of Joyfield and Putney Roads). All are welcome to get to know the church family on Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m. (contemporary service) or at 11 a.m. (traditional service).

Separate activities, through “Kid’s Kare,” are provided at each service for children ages 2 to 6 years old. Sunday School classes for children 2 years old through adults meet at 9:45 a.m. For directions or more information, call the church at (231) 352-9148.
