Vogue Theatre continues to celebrate 80 years

MANISTEE — The Vogue Theatre’s 80th anniversary celebration was in full swing Thursday night as staff, volunteers and patrons threw a birthday party at the North Channel Brewing Company of Manistee.

The event featured specialized Vogue cupcakes, courtesy of party host North Channel, and a guest staff of bartenders, made up of Vogue board members and volunteers.

The celebration ran from early evening into the night, as Manistee County Dial A Ride provided transportation to and from the Vogue Theatre for a free showing of “The Blues Brothers.

The Vogue Theatre first opened on Jan. 12, 1938, and was most recently revitalized as a nonprofit organization in 2013. In 2017, the theater was recognized as the top public economic development project over $1 million in the state by the Michigan Downtown Association.

The celebration will continue through the weekend. The remaining anniversary schedule is as follows:

Jan. 12

• Free admission to all movies for patrons more than 80 years old

Jan. 13

• 9:30 a.m. 80th year photo under the marquee

• 9:45 a.m. Time capsule dedication (volunteers are encouraged to write a statement for the time capsule)

• 10 a.m. “The Wizard of Oz” (all tickets 25-cents)

Jan. 14

• Free gifts for patrons with each ticket admission
