Ludington native to present play in Traverse City

LOCAL BREWER/ACTOR TAKES ON TOUGH SUBJECT TO BENEFIT CFS’ THIRD LEVEL CRISIS CENTER

TRAVERSE CITY — Right Brain Brewery will offer an evening of beer, art and important theater Saturday night.

Josh Thomas will go from production manager at Right Brain to stage play director and actor, all in the same day.

Thomas is staging an original play by the British playwright Duncan Macmillan called “Every Brilliant Thing.” The show, which had a stop off Broadway and on HBO this past year, addresses the difficult topic of suicide in a way that is both heart-wrenching and hilarious.

Thomas introduced “Every Brilliant Thing” to his home town of Ludington last month to a sold-out crowd and the response was extremely positive, with hugs from strangers, tears, and laughter. Thomas is also the director for the upcoming play “Romance Guaranteed” at the Old Town Playhouse next month.

In addition to the Jan. 20 performance of the play, Right Brain will be hosting Grand Traverse Art Bomb, with the exhibit of local artists surrounding the stage.

The show begins at 8 p.m. with some social time built in both before and after the 70 minute play to grab a drink, check out Art Bomb, and meet Thomas. There will be staff and resources available from Third Level Crisis Center, a program of Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan (CFS).

A suggested donation will help support this community resource which provides suicide prevention through their 24/7 crisis hotline and trainings throughout the year.
