Manistee Cross Country Ski Council to host Moonlight Ski

MANISTEE — Join the Manistee Cross Country Ski Council for two nighttime ski events called “Moonlight Ski” in January and February.

One event is from 7-9 p.m. on Jan. 27. Another is on Feb. 24 at the same time. Ski, or snowshoe if conditions are icy, in the moonlight and the Manistee Cross Country Ski Council will have hot chocolate and desserts in the heated shelter at Big M.

The evening is informal. Skiers or snowshoers can head out independently on the trails or hang out in the lodge. The group does not have lights on the trails but if the moon is out, it is bright. If it is cloudy, attendees should to bring a headlamp. Attendees can also head to the overlook at Capper’s Peak behind the lodge.

This event is free and open to the public, although donations will be gratefully accepted by the Manistee Cross Country Ski Council to help with the expenses of the grooming the Big M ski trails. The volunteer, non-profit group works in cooperation with the Forest Service to maintain the Big M ski trails during the winter.
