Blizzard!

Driving conditions in the Manistee area were described as a “mess” today in the wake of a blizzard that blew into Michigan overnight. Drifting, blowing snow clogged area roads, closed schools including West Shore Community College, and forced cancellation of many scheduled events.

Blizzard unabated

Although the year’s worst storm, continued unabated here last night and in other parts of the state today, there were indications after noon that the worst part of the blizzard is past, as far as Manistee is concerned. The wind, which reached its two-day peak last night died down during the day. However, cold weather and occasional snow flurries will continue for several days according to predictions. Temperatures, which remained around the 12 and 15 degree marks in various parts of the city, are due to slide tonight as a “severe cold wave” is felt.

Rotary backs building plan

The Manistee Rotary Club at its regular meeting last night gave its support to the growling move for construction of a new courthouse by passing a resolution endorsing the project and promising its cooperation in efforts to secure the project.
