2017 Charles E. Schoedel Awards recipients announced

MANISTEE COUNTY — The Manistee Recreation Association is proud to announce the recipients of the 2017 Charles E. Schoedel Awards: Jack Ball and Martin Marietta Magnesia Specialties of Manistee.

The Charles E. Schoedel Awards are chosen by the MRA Board of Directors and presented annually to one individual and one business or organization, that has positively impacted the recreational way of life in Manistee County.

Jack Ball served on the Manistee Recreation Association Board of Directors for nearly 20 years, both as president and at-large director. Jack’s leadership, knowledge and passion for Manistee made him a beloved member of the board and employees at the MRA, and his motivation to better our community made him an irreplaceable part of the organization.

Along with the MRA, Jack was involved in many local service organizations throughout his life, including the local Lions and Rotary Clubs and also a lifetime member of the Manistee Elks Lodge. His actions have shown that compassion, dedication and hard work can provide an immeasurable positive impact on the quality of life throughout Manistee County.

Martin Marietta is a worldwide aggregates company with locations in 26 states, Canada and the Caribbean. The Magnesia Specialties business, located in Manistee is the producer of magnesium hydroxide and magnesium oxide products used worldwide in numerous environmental, agriculture and industrial applications.

Their Manistee location is home to a fantastic workforce of 180 employees, and has been a pillar in Manistee County since the 1940’s. Giving back and supporting the community is very important to the company, and each year they donate to many local organizations and schools.

The culture of generosity established by the company has set a wonderful example for their employees as well, with many of them donating hundreds of hours of their time and money throughout the area.

The MRA and many other local organizations realize the positive impact Martin Marietta has on Manistee, and wishes to show their appreciation.
