Onekama schools set date for vote

Trustees of the board of education of Onekama Consolidated Schools last night voted to set a special millage election for April 10. The amount of the millage request has not yet been set Superintendent Phillip J. Kullman said the board will meet in special session next Monday night to decide how many mills the board will ask the district voters to approve.

Council to look at park costs

A cost estimate for preliminary work on park areas in the city is on the agenda for tonight’s meeting of the Manistee City Council. Gerald Superczynski, city assessor, will present the consultant’s estimate for work that will include the installation of toilets at the ball diamonds at First Street Beach and improvements to be made at Red Szymarek Park off Fifth Avenue.

60 YEARS AGO

Four Arcadia School Board members resign from office

All but one of the members of the board of the Arcadia School resigned Tuesday night, Mrs. Grace McGill, secretary, being the sole remaining member. Resignations by Ernest Schneider, Harvey Helferich, Bernard Finch and Richard Werle followed by three days the election in which the school voters turned down the proposition of annexing to Frankfort. Other board action included acceptance of the resignation of Maynard Hoeh which will become effective as of June 30, 1958.

80 YEARS AGO

Thaw is halted

After a wet weekend during which rain and high temperatures left sidewalks and streets here slushy and rutted, colder weather today checked this condition and driving was less hazardous, although streets were coated with ice.

Chimney fire

Firemen answered a call to extinguish a small chimney fire at the home of H.C. VanHise at 105 Pine St. yesterday afternoon at 5 p.m. Damage was slight.
