Fires in 1977

A total of 62 fires in the City of Manistee last year claimed $359,147 worth of property, according to the Manistee Fire Department’s annual report submitted at last night’s City Council meeting by Fire Chief Herb Olson.

Snowbanks

Snow removal efforts and the huge snowbanks that still linger the blizzard that hit Manistee two weeks ago were topics for discussion at last night’s meeting of the Manistee City Council. In a memo to the council, City Manager Chester Glocheski reported that the extended storm cost the city about $15,000 in overtime, fuel and equipment repair work.

60 YEARS AGO

Sunday will be big day in scouting

Scouts and scouters are reminded of the Western District Court of Honor on Feb. 9 at the Ramsdell Theatre in Manistee. All Cubs, Girl Scouts, committeemen and others interested in the scouting movement are urged to attend. The afternoon event will get underway promptly at 2 p.m.

80 YEARS AGO

Fly to Havana

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney O. Kann, who are vacationing in Florida, arrived at Havana, Cuba last week Thursday by flying a clipper ship from Miami. After several days spent sightseeing and shopping they will return in the 20-ton flying boat to Florida.
