Weekend charity basketball game to benefit local man

MANISTEE — The Shootout at the Blue Zoo benefit for Dustin Gillispie is slated for this weekend.

Doors will open for the event at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Brethren High School and the charity basketball game featuring two teams made up of former basketball players graduating between 1998 and 2005 will start at 4 p.m.

The event will include a silent auction, raffle, 50/50, bake sale, concessions, free throw competition, live music from Theo Batzer, a photo booth and more.

Gillispie, 35, of Brethren, was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of cancer. He is being treated at the University of Michigan Hospital. He is the son of Lee and Debra Gillispie, of Wellston.

All proceeds from the event will help Dustin and his family.
