MANISTEE COUNTY — David Hanchett, of the Benzie Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and Larry Gibson, of the Bear Lake Township CERT programs, recently attended week-long CERT training offered by FEMA at the Emergency Management Institute (EMI) Campus in Emmitsburg, Md.

The week long training included CERT program management and “Train the Trainer” classes. The classes, housing and transportation costs were paid for by FEMA. The class included CERT personnel from throughout the United States.

The specific classes they attended included Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program Manager, which prepares participants to establish and sustain an active local CERT program; and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Train-the-Trainer, which prepares participants to deliver the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) CERT Basic Training course.
