“Arsenic” coming to Ramsdell

The award-winning comedy, “Arsenic and Old Lace” will be brought to the Ramsdell Theatre on March 16, 17, and 18. The cast includes David Butler, Kay Rakowski, Ellen Ramsdell, Mark Maiville, Richard Wronkoski, Barry Peterson, and Deborah Kaskinen.

League discusses welfare reform

The issue that almost every aspiring political candidate espouses – welfare reform – was a subject of the special League of Women Voters meeting Monday night which focused on women’s issues and an update on President Jimmy Carter’s welfare reform package which is now in House subcommittee.

Red Cross setup

The Rev. Harold J. Perschbacher, chairman of the Manistee County Chapter of the American Red Cross, announces the appointment of Floyd P. Clement as the campaign chairman for the 1958 Red Cross Fund Drive which will take place in March. Mr. Clement also served as fund chairman for the 1957 drive, is a past general chairman of the local chapter, and serves as disaster preparedness chairman for the Red Cross at present.

CCC enrollees visit factory

As the first of a series of planned visits to local manufacturing plants 70 Camp Irons CCC enrollees, under the jurisdiction of John Dykster, educational advisor of the camp, inspected the Manistee Salt plant here Saturday morning. Souvenir cakes of salt were given each member of the group.

Teachers will meet

Announcement was made today by Chairman Albert J. Dahlgren, county school commissioner, of the Manistee County Teachers’ Institute which will be held at Kaleva on Feb. 22 at Kaleva. Featured speakers at the meet will be John Haitema, of the State Department of public instruction, Jack Morrow, foreign correspondent and student of international affairs, and Guy Hill, Professor of Education at Michigan State College.
