Onekama Church of the Brethren to host fundraiser for Puerto Rico

ONEKAMA — Puerto Ricans continue to suffer from the massive damage inflicted by the 2017 hurricanes.

People wishing to support the recovery efforts there may wish to attend “Together for Puerto Rico” on Saturday at the Church of the Brethren in Onekama, located at 8266 Mill St.

The fundraising event will feature music, food and a silent auction.

“Together for Puerto Rico” will begin at 4 p.m. with a concert of music in the church sanctuary followed by a meal of soups and breads at 5:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. At 7 p.m. there will be a more informal “coffeehouse” type concert of music and any musicians who wish to participate will be warmly welcomed.

A silent auction will take place throughout the event, from 4 to 8 p.m. Quilts, pottery, jewelry and many other valuable items will be auctioned. Anyone interested in contributing items to the silent auction can contact Mark Ward at (231) 649-2090.

Funds raised will be channeled through Brethren Disaster Ministries, a proven and effective organization with many decades of experience in sending volunteers and resources to places within this country as well as overseas which are devastated by natural and man-made disasters.
