State to study traffic problems

Traffic pattern and speed studies will have to completed before the state can decide if the intersection of Eighth and Cypress Streets rates a signal light or if the speed limit on the south end of Cypress can be reduced. Local officials pointed out that in 1976, from Second Street south along Cypress where there are no signal lights and a speed of 40 miles an hour, there were 30 traffic accidents. Between Taylor Street and Second Street, where the speed limit is 30 mph and there are two traffic signals, there were 73 reported accidents.

60 YEARS AGO

Kopper completes work

Miss Heidi Kopper completed the work for her Master of Arts degree at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, at the end of the first semester. The degree will be awarded in June. Her major field is French; her minor, German. For the past year and a half she has been teaching French at Indiana University on an assistantship while working for her advanced degree.

80 YEARS AGO

Rademaker Chemical Corp. expansion

Announcement has been made by officials of the Rademaker Chemical Corporation at Eastlake of completion of plans for an expansion program that will increase production, augment the firm’s list of products and provide a steady market for its entire output of chemicals.

Volleyball

The men’s volleyball class will meet Wednesday evening in the high school gym at 8 o’clock. All men interested in playing volleyball are asked to attend. Old clothes and tennis shoes are the only articles needed.
