Ban on angle parking

Manistee City Council learned last night that curbs and gutters may have to be installed at certain locations when the city’s ban on angle parking goes into effect July 1. Police Chief John Willet said approximately 30 locations in the city will be affected by the new parking restrictions.

It’s Big Sale Day for Downtown Manistee businesses as most retailers will remain open until 9 p.m. as part of the annual Washington’s Birthday Sale.

New tree farm booklet

Woods, owners in Manistee, Mason, Benzie, Lake and Wexford counties may obtain a free copy of a color-illustrated booklet, “The American Box Board Tree Farm Family”. The booklet outlines the company’s plan of service to woodland owners. The American Box Board Tree Farm Family offes woods owners professional forest management services and marketing aid without charge.

80 YEARS AGO

Falleen passes

Arthur Falleen, 42, assistant manager and assistant secretary-treasurer of the Falleen Drop Froge Corporation, died late yesterday at his home following a cerebral hemorrhage. He came to Manistee from Rockford, Ill. in 1924 with his father and together they purchased the Drop Forge Co. In May 1925, the plant was reorganized and the name changed to the Falleen Drop Forge Corporation.
