Farr Friends to present history of Petunia Parade

ONEKAMA — The Portage Petunia Parade will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2018.

The Farr Friends are welcoming the public to learn about the history of this community tradition at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Farr Center in Onekama.

Information will be shared about the early years, its evolution over 2-plus decades, the process to create and maintain the beautiful petunias and plans to celebrate the silver anniversary this summer. The Petunia Parade literally “takes a village” of enthusiastic volunteers, vendors and donors to make this a reality.

Farr Friends meets from 2:30-4:30 p.m. every Thursday at the Farr Center for fun, games and lectures. There is no charge to attend the presentation but donations are accepted to underwrite costs of hosting speakers.

Farr Friends is a program of the Portage Lake Association (PLA), a group of volunteers who are dedicated to making the Onekama area a great place in which to live, play and stay. The Farr Center is located at 5283 Main St. (M-22) in Onekama.
