City adopts new flag

The City of Manistee has its own flag, and the prototype of it was displayed at two different meetings in the past two days. It was unfurled first at the city council meeting Tuesday night when Rotary Club President-elect Sandy Pelarski brought it in for council acceptance and approval. The council accepted it and the new flag hung up in the conference room of the 440 West Restaurant in time for the DDA’s meeting at noon Wednesday. The Rotary Club holds the rights to the flag.

60 YEARS AGO

Warner’s Diner in Bear Lake

Warner’s Diner, the former Jim’s Truck Stop restaurant, opened for business last Saturday under the management of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Warner. The restaurant has been redecorated with walls a pleasing seas green shade and ceiling nickel gray. The booths and counter are done in light gray and the table tops in the booths are of white marble.

80 YEARS AGO

Road garage bids accepted

At a meeting of the County Road Commission in the courthouse yesterday, bids for materials to be used in the construction of the new county garage at Kaleva were opened and decided upon. Contract for the cement to be used was given to the Kaleva Produce Co, Roberts and Radtke, Somsel Brothers Hardware, Towner Hardware Co., Olson Lumber Co., and Noud Lumber Co.

Licenses

Chief of Police Frank Kruse will be at police headquarters inthe city building tonight from 7 o’clock on to issue drivers’ and chauffeurs’ licenses to applicants. Persons applying for new licenses are reminded to bring their old licenses.
