College to screen documentary

SCOTTVILLE — The documentary “And Then They Came for Us” will be screened at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in West Shore Community College’s Center Stage Theater

In 1942, Executive Order 9066 paved the way to the violation of constitutional rights that resulted in the forced incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans, two-thirds of which were America citizens.

Featuring George Takei and many others who were incarcerated, as well as newly rediscovered photographs by Dorothea Lange, “And Then They Came for Us” brings history into the present, retelling this difficult story and following Japanese American activists as they speak out against present-day calls for a Muslim registry and travel ban.

After the screening, Mike Nagle, professor of history, will moderate a panel discussion.
