District volleyball

District volleyball action was hot over the weekend. Manistee High School placed third in District 63 – bowing to conference powers Reed City and Fremont. First round competition resulted in the Chips besting Big Rapids. Kelly Arnold scored five points and six assists. Sara Harthun had two points and six kills; Anne Plaxton had two points; Lauren Jensen made three points and seven kills; Krista Sundbeck made nine assists and seven kills and Shelly Miller hit seven kills.

Getting together

Paul Cramer and Robert Petttingill of Manistee High School met with Robert Meyers of Manistee Catholic Central yesterday to discuss plans for Saturday’s school band and orchestra concert festival co-hosted by the two schools. The event, the District One Michigan School Band and Orchestra Festival will include 22 bands from 16 participating schools.

New manager

The new manager of the School House Store in Manistee is Ruth Niemerowicz. She has worked for the past 17 years at Glen of Michigan and the School House Store. She started working the clothing factory before Glen of Michigan was purchased by the present owner and transferred to the store some 10 years ago.

Start sale

Members of the Senior class annual staff who are in charge of the yearbook publication, Manichigan are taking subscriptions for the book which is to be published in May.

Cooler house will be built

Actions is being taken toward the construction of a cooler house at Horseshoe Bend Campgrounds on the Big Manistee River. Work will be started immediately so that the structure will be completed for summer use. It will be built entirely underground and will be located around the deep well pump.
