Parks commission seeking master plan, public input

The Parks Commission would like to develop a master plan for Red Szymarek and Fifth Avenue Beach parks, but they want to hear from the public and involved parties first. So they have invited the public and concerned the groups like Harbor Village, the Little River Band, Arts & Crafts and NIA to next month’s commission meeting which will be held on April 15 at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers.

St. Joseph School resolution

A concurrent resolution of the Michigan Legislature commemorating St. Joseph’s School was presented Sunday to the Rev. James Suchocki, pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish. The resolution was presented by Rep. Dennis Cawthorne after the 10 a.m. Liturgy Sunday. It recognizes St. Joseph’s School for all it meant in the education of the youth of Manistee for the past 80 years. The day of presentation, March 19, is also the parish’s patronal feast, the feast of St. Joseph.

Peterson honored

David L. Peterson, well-known area sports figure who enjoyed a successful high school athletic career and has continued in sports coaching various public and parochial school boys and girls teams, was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year at ceremonies Saturday at the Walsh Post of the Veterans of Foreign War.

60 YEARS AGO

Johnson is winner

On March 10, Miss Cheryl Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson, was presented with a portable TV set on the Party Line TV program over WWTV, Cadillac. Cheryl had entered the Happy Hideaway contest and won her television set by identifying the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Makinen. Cheryl will be eligible for the grand prize.
