Goodrich is Lion of the Year

Onekama Lions Club President Dave Adams, presented the Lion of the Year award to Bob Goodrich on Saturday evening as the Lions met at the Elks Club in Manistee to celebrate their 11th anniversary.

60 YEARS AGO

Harthun joins National Honorary Vet Fraternity

Mrs. Emma Harthun has received word that her son, Walter R., a veterinary student at Michigan State University, has been initiated to membership in the Zeta Chapter of the Society of Phi Zeta, a national honor veterinary society. Walter will be graduated from MSU on June 8. He plans to establish a veterinary practice in Manistee County. He was a graduate of Bear Lake High School in 1952 and was salutatorian of his class.

80 YEARS AGO

MHS Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Cleora Forth, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Wade Forth has been selected as Manistee High School’s Valedictorian for the graduating class. In addition to her outstanding scholastic work she has taken an active interest in extracurricular activities. Harry Spoonoble has been selected as this year’s Salutatorian. He has already taken a college course and is active in several extracurricular activities as well.

Orchard Beach State Park to be improved

The $200,000 Michigan-WPA park improvement program will get underway soon, W.J. Kingscott, chief of the conservation department’s park division, announced today. The WPA, according to tentative arrangements, will supply $160,000 to add $40,000 recently set aside by the emergency appropriations commission. Work will consist chiefly of building repairs improvement of campgrounds, roads and parking areas, digging wells, constructing sewage disposal facilities and making picnic tables.
