of Music competition April 22.

Gianna and her aunts, Dani Stansell and Mimi Stansell, and her grandmother, Kathryn Stansell have performed on the Ramsdell stage in many productions.

The winners of the competition were announced May 3, at Ethan Bortnick’s Grand Rapids concert.

The Celebration of Music competition was held at Grand Rapids Civic Theater and was broadcast on PBS WGVU 35 on April 22, and included performances by young singers and musicians from all over the state, according to Gianna’s father, Gil Stansell.

“Talent from all over the state auditioned, was recorded and aired on TV in the Grand Rapids area, and Gianna won the popular vote,” he said. “Next she gets to go to L.A. … and she’ll sing for a nationally televised event.”

After the April 22 performance, votes were tallied from viewers throughout West Michigan until May 3. Gianna won the popular vote, and will move on to the national competition in Los Angeles.
