U-M Club awards scholarships to area students

MANISTEE — The University of Michigan Club of Manistee recently awarded scholarships to six students from the club’s area.

Students recognized for 2018 are Athena Apfel, Cadillac High School; Benjamin Knoer, Lance Root and Trent Thompson, Ludington High School; Samuel Vogler, Mesick High School; and Jeremiah Torrey, Onekama High School. The students will be attending the U-M as freshmen in the fall semester.

The Manistee Club is the official affiliate of the UofM Alumni Association for Manistee, Mason, Wexford, Lake and parts of Benzie and Oceana counties. The club welcomes alumni and fans in its membership.

The club will be “sending off” all the new admits at the annual Tailgate Extravaganza on June 6 at Manistee National Golf and Resort. The celebration includes a social hour, buffet and the finale of the scholarship fund raiser, the “a-MAIZE-ing Auction”
