Manistee High School honor students

Honor students for the 1978 graduating class at Manistee High School have been announced by Neil H. Brennan, high school principal. Graduating summa cum laude are: Karen Jacobs, Julie Niesen, Don Tomaszewski and Stuart Yankee.

Refurnished chairs

The Civic Players are seeking donations of old chairs to complete one of the ongoing restoration projects at the Ramsdell Theatre. A total of 32 chairs are needed for new seating in the theatre boxes. Other Victorian period furnishings, such as love seats, are desire for use in the lobby and lunges. A special plaque will be permanently installed in the theatre, listing people or businesses who donate furnishings or funds to help in the purchase of chairs.

60 YEARS AGO

Jones is Pastor

The Rev. Charles R. Jones and family moved here last Friday where Rev. Jones has accepted a call to the pastorate of the Kaleva Baptist Church. He preached his first sermon her Sunday. The Rev. Jones, who has been at White Cloud for several years, came here by the unanimous call of the church board.

80 YEARS AGO

Money allotted for health unit

Announcement that the Manistee-Mason County health unit has been allocated by $4,000 for the year has been made by Dr. Don W. Gudakunst, state health commissioner. The amount, same as last year, is part of the unit’s annual appreciation from local, state and governmental sources and from the children’s fund of Michigan.

Window displays

Old printed chinaware that first appeared in pre-revolutionary days and is again assuming importance in early American interiors is being displayed in an unique collection of spode which the public is invited to view at Gardner’s Jewelry Store on River Street.
