Lee Ann Womack coming to the fair

The Manistee County Fair Board announces that country recording artist, Lee Ann Womack, will appear at this year’s fair. The Nashville star will be in concert on July 23 at the Manistee County Fairgrounds. Womack has recorded “Buckaroo,” “Never Again, Again,” “The Fool,” and “Am I The Only Thing That You’ve Done Wrong?” along with a number of other country hits.

Eastlake moves on water plan

The Eastlake Village Council accepts bids for construction of municipal water system at its regular meeting Wednesday night. The acceptance of the four bids is conditional, village president Donald McIntyre said, on the Michigan Municipal Finance Commission’s approval of the project and if the village can receive another $100,000 in grants from the Farmers Home Administration.

Bike-A-Thon winners

The cystic fibrosis bike-a-thon was termed a great success by the Manistee Jaycees, the sponsors of the local event. A total of 22 bikers participated aging from nine to 35 years old. Many of the riders rode their bikes as many as 63 miles. The total amount of money collected was $2,014.35 which will go to help children suffering from cystic fibrosis and related lung diseases. The grand prize winner for turning in the most money ($306) was Danny Zuchowski.

80 YEARS AGO

Recreational program for city assured

A recreational program which will provide supervision in organized play on 12 playgrounds throughout the city during the ten weeks of summer was assured last night when the city commission decided to cooperate with the Board of Education on the project, advanced by the Manistee Recreational Council and appropriated $589 to pay part of the expenses.

Neal is new director

At a regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Manistee County Savings Bank held yesterday, Judge Max E. Neal was elected to the Board of Directors to fill the vacancy created by the death of the late Rolf Nielsen.
