MDOT remilling US-31

MDOT returned to work on Cypress (US-31) in town this week, and the by-now familiar orange cones reappeared as the west side of the road was barricaded so Laman Asphalt, the contractor, could come in, grind up the surface and remill it into a like-new asphalt topping. The four-lane highway became two, and the work is expected to take in both sides of the street and continue into June 23.


Pihl to graduate

Wayne Pihl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Weikko Pihl of Kaleva, will graduate from Davenport Institute in Grand Rapids in commencement exercises at Ottawa Hills High School auditorium at 8 p.m. on June 16. He is a graduate of Kaleva High School, Class of 1956, and has completed the business administration course at the Grand Rapids business college. He is employed at the Rapids Standard Company in Grand Rapids.


95 to graduate

High school days for 95 Manistee High School senior students will be climaxed tomorrow Monday nights when baccalaureate and the 60th annual commencement exercises are held in the high school auditorium. The Rev. W.R. Catton having been secured to give the main address tomorrow night and Dr. Milton M. McGorrill, minister of the Fountain St. Baptist Church of Grand Rapids, will deliver the Commencement address Monday night.

Off to the cottage

Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. White, 410 Cedar Street, moved to their summer home, “Sunshine Corner” at Onekama today. Their daughter, Mrs. Eleanor White Chamberlain and her daughter, Patsy, will occupy the cottage across the road which belongs to Mr. White’s sisters, the misses Nellie and Mary White of Kansas City, Mo.
