Scottville teen pronounced dead in Mason County crash

MASON COUNTY — A Scottville teen who was pronounced dead at the scene in a fatal crash in Mason County on Saturday evening, was recently identified by police.

Chrysta Lynn Carrier, 15, a passenger, was pronounced dead on Saturday in a single vehicle crash. Police were dispatched to Washington Road, east of Stiles Road, around 7:45 p.m., according to a Michigan State Police press release.

Mercedy Mae Sayles, 16, of Pentwater, who was driving the vehicle, was transported to DeVos Hospital in Grand Rapids for injuries, where she is said to be in stable condition.

The Michigan State Police Hart Post is investigating the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Police say the vehicle was travelling east bound, when the driver lost control. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned, and both teenagers were found ejected from the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.
