Two players from Onekama baseball were named to the all-Northwest Conference team while three others received honorable mention.

“The guys who made the all-conference team for us did a great job,” said Onekama baseball coach John Neph. “They led us through the conference season. We came in third in a very tough baseball conference.”

Jacob Mauntler was named to the all-conference team as an infielder while Jayden DeWitt received honorable mention for his efforts on the mound. The two were also named to the all-district team.

Neph will miss the two seniors not only for their athletic prowess but their upbeat attitudes as well.

“Both those guys brought a lot of fun to the team,” Neph said. “They just loved playing baseball. You could see that every day at practice and in the games. They really enjoyed being at the ballpark.

“… We had a lot of fun in the dugout and the guys were really anxious to be at the ballpark,” he continued. “It made it a lot easier on the coaches knowing we had guys showing up to play the game. It was really a fun season.”

Lucas Mauntler was named to the all-Northwest Conference team as an infielder.

“I’m proud of all the guys that made all-conference,” Neph said. “… We got great play out of Jacob Mauntler and Lucas. Both those guys did a great job. They really hit the ball well for us. They’re top of the order hitters and they did a great job leading us through.”

Jonathan Adams and Austin Harper both received all-conference honorable mention. Adams was also named to the all-district team as a catcher while Harper was named as a pitcher.

Neph looks forward to coaching the pair again next season.

“We’re excited that the players coming back showed a lot of progress this year in a very shortened season,” Neph said. “We’re looking to have those guys back and adding to it for next year. We’ll have a lot of good players and we’re hoping to recap what we did this year.”

DeWitt, Jacob Mauntler, Ben Acton, Ryan Clarke and Jeremiah Torrey were named to the MHSBCA all-academic district team for excellence in the classroom as well as on the playing field.
