KARI ZOSCZAK: Appreciated community support at informational picket

TO THE EDITOR:

On behalf of the nurses at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital, I would like to thank the dozens of members from other local unions and the general community who participated in the informational picket at the hospital on May 31.

Over 150 people participated in the picket, designed to call attention to the stalled negotiations, which have left nurses working without a contract for over six months. Dozens of workers representing locals of the United Steel Workers from Morton Salt, Martin Marietta, PCA and the city of Manistee, as well as members of SEIU from the medical care facility and the hospital, all marched in the picket to show solidarity with the Manistee nurses, as did family and friends.

This kind of community support will be essential as our local chapter of the Michigan Nurses Association continues to fight for a fair contract that will ensure that quality nurses are recruited and retained, and that the first rate health care our residents deserve and expect can continue to be provided.

The heavy community involvement will surely show the administrators in Manistee and Traverse City that Manistee is union proud and union strong! Thank you.
