MANISTEE — Anyone who came of age during the heavy metal era of the 1980s heavy metal no doubt cut their musical teeth on MTV and music groups like Poison, Motley Crue, Metallica and Ratt.

Those days will live again on Oct. 6 when Ratt rocks the entertainment center at the Little River Casino Resort.

The origins of Ratt go back to the early 1970s when lead vocalist Stephen Pearcy founded the group Firedome. Two Pearcy bands later in 1976 he founded Mickey Ratt and in 1981 the name was shortened to Ratt.

The band’s first hit, “Round and Round” reached No. 12 on the Billboard Top 40 in 1983, followed by “Lay It Down,” which reached No. 40. Other popular Ratt songs were “Wanted Man,” “You’re in Love” and “Dance.”

Their albums that reached platinum status included “Out of the Cellar,” “Invasion of Your Privacy,” “Dancing Undercover,” and “Reach for the Sky.”

Current members of the band include Pearcy on lead vocals, long-time member Juan Croucier on bass and backing vocals, and percussionist Jimmy DeGrasso who joined the group in 2014.

Ratt has gone through many ups and downs through its decades of existence. The first breakup was in 1991 when Robbin Crosby left followed by Pearcy a few months later. The other original members, Warren DeMartini and Bobby Blotzer, went into different lines of work.

The original members talked about a reunion album in 1996, which resulted in Pearcy, DeMartini and Blotzer adding Robbie Crane to tour live and record two albums and the single “Over the Edge.” Pearcy left the group again in 2000, but they reunited from 2006 until 2010, and after several legal battles among former members and periods when two versions of the band were performing, Pearcy made the announcement earlier this year that he and Croucier would start a tour that would take them to venues throughout the United States including Kansas, California, Minnesota, Nevada, Illinois, Texas, Michigan and Idaho.
