Medical Care Facility considers new water supply

Finding an alternative water supply for the Manistee County Medical Care Facility and removing an old fuel tank located at the facility were a focus of the Family Independence Agency board meeting earlier this week. The facility needs a new water source because one of two wells located the facility had to be capped due to its age. This left the facility with one operable well, but the law states that it must have two.

40 YEARS AGO

Excursion

Nearly 80 youngsters waited at Manistee High School this morning for the bus that would take them on a one-day field trip to Traverse City. The youths are participating in the Manistee Recreation Association’s summer playground program. They were scheduled to be treated to a children’s play at Interlochen and a visit to the Traverse City Zoo.

60 YEARS AGO

Store robbed

A breaking and entering occured at Jess Sturdevant’s store some time in the night last Tuesday night. The thief or thieves made off with several hundred dollars, some of which belonged to the Consumers Power Co. and some to the REA. Mr. Sturdevant collects for light bills in and around Brethren.

80 YEARS AGO

Electors will decide upon new courthouse

Manistee County electors will vote September 13 upon a $75,000 bond issue required for construction of a new courthouse here as a PWA project, the county Board of Supervisors decided yesterday in a special session. The board, turning from WPA to PWA in an effort to secure the building, accepted the preliminary plans advanced by R.V. Gary, St. Johns, Michigan architect, and engaged him to handle details of the application.
