On Monday afternoon the board met in special session to approve recommendations from the board administrative committee concerning bids from contractors for work on the Technical Center addition project, Ice Arena addition/Campus Center project.

WSCC president Scott Ward presented the bids to the board.

“All of the bid information along with past performance of each subcontractor has been reviewed and evaluated by The Christman Company with WSCC staff participation,” said Ward. “With favorable bids in all work categories, The Christman company has indicated confidence that the projects will be within the budgeted amounts.”

Ward told the board the projects are bonded as required by state law.

“The projects we are doing are funded through the capital budget with the Tech Center Project also receiving funding from the State of Michigan,” said Ward. “The tech center project bids we are approving today are for the welding lab addition. The remainder of the Tech Center project will be bid at a later date and the construction will take place in the summer of 2019.”

Board members then took action to approve the recommended board bids.

Also coming before the board was a recommendation to approve a contract addendum with Northern Floor Care for the addition of $78,000 annually for the janitorial services in the Arts and Sciences Center.

Ward told the board this was prompted by the retirement of their custodian the end of this month.

“Administrative staff reviewed several alternatives for replacing or outsourcing,” said Ward. “Three different quotes were solicited from Northern Floor Care for different scenarios. After considering the impact on college operations and the workload of staff, administrative staff concurred to outsource the janitorial services for the Arts and Sciences Center.”

Board members voted to approve the addition of spending $78,000 annually for the janitorial services in the Arts and Science Center.

Ward told the board that an additional addendum will be brought in the coming months for the janitorial services at the Regional Public Safety Training Center.
