ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan woman celebrated her 108th birthday alongside five generations of family members.

Relatives and friends held a birthday party Sunday for Rosaria Martinico to celebrate her life spanning more than one century, the Detroit News reported. Martinico said her birthday celebration at her Rochester Hills senior living facility was “wonderful.”

“I appreciate it,” she said. “I’m tired … but I have had a good life.”

Martinico was born in Detroit in 1910 when William Howard Taft was president, four years before World War I began. She worked in factories and shipyards during World War II to help build weapons, including B-17 bombers, according to her family.

Martinico’s husband of 57 years died in 1985, and she lost all her siblings by the age of 85, her family said. But her life carries on with two daughters, eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

“When she gets discouraged and said she’s lived too long, I tell her that most people haven’t gotten to see their great-great grandkids,” said Tim Strnad, her 63-year-old grandson. “And she always says, ‘They’re so precious.’ And she goes, ‘I am blessed.'”

Martinico didn’t blow out the three candles standing on her birthday cake. Instead, she asked her great-great-grandchildren to do the honors.
