Onekama Days returns

Activities are already underway for the 25th annual Onekama Days celebration and a full slate of events awaits those planning to join in the fun throughout the weekend at the Manistee County Fairgrounds, located on Portage Lake approximately 12 miles north of Manistee. Sponsored by the Onekama Lions Club, funded by a wide assortment of area businesses and supported by a large confederation of community volunteers, activities began Thursday with Bingo and a teen dance.

Mothers organize as preliminary to form co-op nursery

A few of the parents in Copemish and surrounding areas are in the process of starting a Co-Op Nursery for pre-school children ages 3-5. A Co-Op Nursery is a non-profit organization run by parents of enrolled students and volunteers. The proposed site for the nursery is the Arcadia Township Hall. There have been a few meetings held and a board has been elected. Members of the board are: President Jenny Osborne, Secretary Shirley Meyers, and Treasurer Shirley Ewing.

60 YEARS AGO

Beekeepers in Copemish

The annual summer meeting of the Northwest Michigan Beekeepers’ Association will be held on August 10 at the Copemish High School. The meeting will start at noon with a pot luck dinner. The coffee and lemonade will be furnished. A good program has been planned by Prof. E.C. Martin of MSU as one of the guest speakers.
