Arcadia reunion draws record crowd

The largest crowd in the history of the Arcadia High School Alumni Association’s annual reunion gathered at the Arcadia Elementary School gym on Saturday evening, July 29, 1978. The 250 alumni teachers and guests were registered by Jeanette Harthun and greeted by the host and hostess, Vern and Judy Benson.

60 YEARS AGO

Let’s dance!

As part of the Bear Lake Days events, there will be a dance as usual sponsored by the Triginta Club. However, this year, the dance will be on August 22 instead of on Saturday. Dancing will be from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the school gym with The Hilltoppers playing the music. The dance will cost 50 cents for entrance.

80 YEARS AGO

State board of Junior Chamber of Commerce to meet here

Plans have been completed and reservations are now being received for the August meeting of the state board of directors of the Michigan Junior Chamber of Commerce. The official business session of the board will be held at the Manistee Golf and Country Club after a 7 p.m. dinner which will be attended by officers, directors, members and their wives or sweethearts.

Celery

A carload of celery has been received by the welfare office and will be distributed this week to relief cases and those on WPA who call at the warehouse at the east end of River Street.
